Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) performs Maurice Ravel’s “Boléro“, a one-movement orchestral piece, originally composed as a ballet commissioned by Russian actress and dancer Ida Rubinstein. Ravel’s Boléro
French composer Joseph-Maurice Ravel (March 7, – December 28, ) was known especially for his melodies, masterful orchestration, richly evocative harmonies, and inventive instrumental textures and effects. Along with Claude Debussy, he was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music (a movement among various composers in classical music, mainly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose music focuses on suggestion and atmosphere).
The work had its genesis in a commission from the Russian dancer Ida Rubinstein (3 October [O.S. 21 September] – 20 September ), who asked Ravel to make an orchestral transcription of six pieces from Isaac Albéniz‘s set of piano pieces, Iberia.

Boléro
On March 13, , the innovative Platoon label released a new recording of Boléro from Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. Boléro is a one-movement orchestral piece composed by Maurice Ravel in It is one of the most enduringly popular works in the classical canon, recognized for its hypnotic repetition, gradual crescendo and Spanish-inspired rhythm.
The new recording was captured in London in early , during the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra’s European Tour with Gustavo Dudamel.
Dudamel says 'Ravel’s Boléro is one of the most iconic works—not just in classical music, but in all of music. Its power lies in its simplicity: one rhythm, two melodies, that’s it.
The listener is carried through a crescendo of colors, on an ever-evolving journey of joy. Each time the melody returns, it takes on a new shade, shaped instinctively by the interpreter, building toward that climactic tutti—a moment I can only describe as nirvana.
