About William Landay:

Writing a bio about William Landay is a dual task. The task is dual because though there is some information available about William Landay; the information is reluctantly shared through an interview here or there. On his website, he has no qualms telling his readers that he is not interested in sharing neither his life nor his life story.

So first, let’s take a glimpse at how William Landay prefers his readers to see him (or not see him) and then we glimpse into his life as he shares it during a interview with Cheryl C. Malandrinos of BC Blog Critics.

On his website, Landay writes, “Publishers call it as the ATA, for &#;About the Author.&#; Am I going to tell more about my self here?”

He goes on to assert that there seems to be two-approaches to how the author reveals himself.

The first one is &#;Hide your life&#; by Flaubert. Flaubert intentionally disappears behind his work and did not allow himself to be painted or photographed. There was no images the exist between middle age a

    Interview

In an in-depth interview, lawyer-turned-author William Landay discusses his courtroom thriller, Defending Jacob.

The advance praise for your book has been tremendous, from authors as varied as Nicholas Sparks and Lee Child. What is it about Defending Jacob that is resonating with so many different kinds of readers?
The response has been tremendous, it's true. It's been very flattering and I'm grateful for it. I think there are a couple of things going on.

First, the story touches on ordinary, universal emotions about family and children. It raises a whole slew of questions that will feel awfully familiar to every parent and every family: Why do children behave as they do? How much is "hardwired" in their nature, how much is shaped by nurture? Why do good families sometimes produce bad children, or at least flawed children? What should parents do when a child begins to show signs of trouble? How far should you go in defending your child? Of course most parents will never be faced with the life-or-death stakes the Barbers confront in Defending Jacob, but I think all parents will see traces of their own ho

The thumbnail bio above is the one I&#;ve been using lately. It does not reveal much about me, I realize. No doubt it will fail to satisfy the demand of the internet for complete transparency. But I don&#;t think an author ought to reveal too much of his biography, as I explain below.

I wrote the following little evasion in , when I first launched a web site to support my novel Mission Flats, and I updated it superficially in , when my second book came out. But essentially my feelings have not changed from the start: the author&#;s place is offstage. So I apologize for the lack of a proper tell-all author bio in this space. But don&#;t hold your breath waiting for one.
