Blainville-Crevon, Normandy, FranceThe start of Marcel Duchamp's career can be counted from the early s when he contributed drawing cartoons for comic magazines while studying in Paris. Under the influence of Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse, Duchamp produced boldly colored pictures that demonstrated a mastery of post impressionist color theory. In , he was called up for a compulsory military service in the 39th Infantry Regiment, serving for a printer in Rouen. Some of Duchamp's early works were featured at the Salon d'Automne and at the Salon des Indépendants the next year. Continuing his experiments with such major contemporary trends in painting as Post-Impressionism, Fauvism (Portrait of the Artist’s Father, ), and Cubism, he seemed to have no habit of any of them. He was outside artistic tradition not only in shunning repetition but also in not attempting a prolific output or frequent exhibition of his work. Marcel Duchamp was born in the late 19th century. The art he produced during his life was very much ahead of its time. For this reason, it was not appreciated until nearly 50 years after its creation. Duchamp&#;s art is now widely recognized and highly acclaimed. In the modern-day, he is seen as a creative genius and is credited with having paved the way for Conceptual art.

Marcel Duchamp is considered to be one of the most important contributors to modern art. But this was not always the case. Upon first being exhibited to the public many of his works were considered highly controversial.
His offbeat and outspoken art was far too progressive for the early s. However, in current times he is celebrated for his uniqueness and creativity.
The Birth and Early Life of Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp (28 Juillet - 2 Octobre ) fut un peintre et un sculpteur français naturalisé Américain en On se rappelera toujours de lui comme l'inventeur d'un mouvement artistique particulier (plutôt devrai-je parler "d'Attitude": le Ready-Made (que l'on pourrait traduire, si on l'osait, par Le Déjà-Fait ou le Tout-Prêt). Il fut un artiste qui révolutionna l’art du XXe siècle. Son œuvre évoque et traverse les courants futuriste, cubiste, dada, surréaliste et son rapport au monde l’exclut de tout mouvement.
Duchamp se fait connaitre en frappant déjà très fort en , lors de l’exposition Armory show à New York, où il présente "Nu descendant un escalier". Son oeuvre fait scandale ! Dans cette œuvre, on dénote des tendances cubistes au futurisme de la "photo-dynamique". Mais très vite, il s'écarte de la peinture. En effet, en , il expose une sculpture appelée "Roue de bicyclette". Deux objets quotidiens sont assemblés et collés l’un sur l’autre par l’artiste : une roue de bicyclette et un tabouret. Ici rien ne sort de la main de l’artiste qui réalise un collage tridimensionnel.
