The Gun Club, Part 3 (Patricia Morrison Interview)
Patricia Morrison
Gun Club Bass Guitarist, June – December
Though she only recorded their third studio album, The Las Vegas Story, with the band, Patricia Morrison will forever be associated with The Gun Club, as much if not more for the female yang and gothic visual impact she brought to the band as for her bass guitar contributions. She’d already been turning heads in her Los Angeles hometown’s punk scene prior to joining The Gun Club as a founding member of The Bags and Legal Weapon. Post-Gun Club, she and Kid Congo Powers had a short-lived project called Fur Bible before she joined The Sisters of Mercy (then operating under the name The Sisterhood) in She appears, in some capacity at least, on The Sisterhood’s album Gift and Sisters of Mercy’s goth-rock masterpiece, ’s Floodland, whose song “Lucretia My Reflection” was written by band leader Andrew Eldritch about Morrison. She left that group as came to a close. A solo album, Reflect On This, was released in , and in she joined The Damned, marrying lead singer Dave Vanian a year later. After giving birth to their daughter Emily in , she retired from music.

Remembering Jeffrey Lee Pierce: He Was an Exorcist of His Own Demons
In the 15 years between the release of the Gun Clubs first album and their frontmans death in , the bleached-blond rock & roll typhoon known as Jeffrey Lee Pierce touched the lives of Nick Cave, Blondies Debbie Harry, Depeche Modes Dave Gahan, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, Lydia Lunch, and countless others. His music could be invigorating and/or mysterious, sometimes at the same time. With the Gun Club and as a solo artist (sometimes billing himself cheekily as Ramblin Jeffrey Lee), he recorded revved-up punk, Delta-style blues, brooding folk, and Americana all punctuated by his husky moaning and primal howls. His lyrics could be sharp, emotional, and dreamlike; his artistic vision was both singular and eclectic.
If you were to ask all of the artists he inspired why they liked Pierces music, each would give a different answer. The first time I heard the Gun Club was when I was living in L.A. in maybe or , Gahan says via email. I remember the music being pretty vibrant; it reminded me a lot of when I was a teenager, growing up in east London and living in the punk scene. Then
