Antonio Machado was born in Seville in , the second of five brothers, in the midst of a liberal family. In the whole family moves to Madrid. Machado studied in the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, which had been founded by a friend of his father. After this, he finished his studies in two schools in Madrid, San Isidro and Cardenal Cisneros.

He travels frequently to Paris, where he meets Rubén Darío and works for a few months in the publishing company Garnier. In Madrid he takes part in the literary and theatre world, and becomes part of the troupe of María Guerrero and Fernando Díaz de Mendoza. Antonio Machado Ruiz (Seville, July 26, Colliure, February 22, ) was a Spanish poet, the youngest representative of the generation of ' modernist cut (like that of his brother Manuel), evolved towards a symbolist intimacy with romantic traits, which matured into a poetry of human commitment, on the one hand, and contemplation of existence, on the other; a synthesis that in Machado's voice echoes the most ancient popular wisdom. In the words of Gerardo Diego, he “spoke in verse and lived in poetry.” He was one of the distinguished students of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (ILE), with whose ideas he was always committed. He died in exile in the death throes of the Second Spanish Republic.

Antonio Machado Ruiz () was an important poet of Spanish origin, recognized in the literary world for producing poetry committed to life and spiritual evolution. He also stood out for having been a member of the Generation of 98 (one of the youngest), as well as a regular reader of Rub&#;n Dar&#;o's works.

Antonio Machado's work began by being classified within Modernism. Some time later he put aside the rhetorical ornaments to express feelings and emotions more deeply; it was then that he moved on to symbolism and used romantic characteristics in his poems.

In his growth as a writer and poet there were three aspects. In the first place there was the influence of his father Antonio Machado &#;lvarez, who was an Andalusian folklorist; later it went through the books of the writers Miguel de Unamuno and Henri Bergson; and, finally, he took into consideration the analysis that was made of Spain during his time.
