Scottsdale Cultural Council CEO brings fundraising expertise
Beginning this week, Scottsdale Cultural Council President and Chief Executive Officer Neale Perl will begin building relationships.
The former leader of a Washington, D.C., performing-arts organization replaces President Bill Banchs, who resigned last August after 5½ years overseeing Scottsdale's contemporary-art museum, performing-arts center and public-art program.
Perl sees his primary duty and strength as forging new relationships and partnerships.
"I'm all about the creative process and bringing together the creative process with the administrative work and fundraising that supports that creative work," said Perl,
Perl is from Potomac, Md., and has held several leadership positions in arts organizations over the past 25 years, most recently as the CEO of the Washington Performing Arts. The organization puts on 60 yearly jazz, gospel, classical and dance performances in places like the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with about 30 employees and a budget of $ million.
The Cultural Council has about 90 employees with a budget of $ million, about 40 percent coming from Scottsdale.

In the words of Washington Performing Arts Society’s President Emeritus Neale Perl, it was a “great day for the arts” last Wednesday as the National Medal of Arts and Humanities were presented to individuals for their immense contributions in their creative fields. Among the honorees were two Washington Life “Perfect Pitch” standouts: soprano Renée Fleming, who was featured in December , and newcomer Jenny Bilfield, seen in the March issue. As the semi-new president of WPAS, Bilfield accepted the award on behalf of the whole organization and dedicated it to Washington&#;s art community.

Scottsdale Cultural Council has appointed Neale Perl as its new president and CEO. A senior executive with more than 25 years’ experience in arts administration and presenting, Perl is the president emeritus of D.C.-based Washington Performing Arts, where he served as president and CEO from to He begins his new position Aug. 11, succeeding Scottsdale Cultural Council Interim President and CEO Richard Hayslip, who will continue to serve the organization as a member of its board of trustees.
Perl was hired after an extensive national search, according to Ellen Andres-Schneider, chair of the organization’s board of trustees.
