- Averrous atau yang juga dikenal sebagai Ibnu Rusyd merupakan filsuf Islam terkemuka.
Ia memiliki nama lengkap Abu al-Walid Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Rusyd, tetapi lebih dikenal sebagai Averroes oleh bangsa Barat.
Ibnu Rusyd dilahirkan dalam sebuah keluarga yang dihormati dan bermartabat. Ia juga terkenal dengan pendidikannya yang luas.
Pada H/ M, Ibnu Rusyd menggantikan kakek dan ayahnya sebagai hakim di Andalusia. Ia juga ditugaskan di Sevilla dan Kordoba.

Ibnu Rusyd merupakan ilmuwan keturunan Arab yang lahir di Kota Cordoba, Andalusia, Spanyol, pada H/ M.
Ia berasal dari keluarga ulama fiqih ternama. Kakek dan ayahnya adalah hakim di Cordoba.
Ayahnya bernama Ahmad atau juga dikenal sebagai Abu Al Qasim.

Averroes (Ibn Rushd) ( – December 10, ) was an Andalusian-Arabphilosopher and physician, a master of philosophy and Islamic law, mathematics, and medicine. He was born in Cordoba, Spain, and died in Marrakesh, Morocco. Averroes is most famous for his commentaries on Aristotle's works, which had been mostly forgotten in the West. The few existing Latin translations of Aristotle’s works had been largely ignored by European scholars, and it was through the Latin translations of Averroes' work, beginning in the twelfth century, that the legacy of Aristotle was recovered in the West.
