Solon was born into a well-to-do family of Athens. He worked as a merchant in the export-import trade, and he considered himself relatively poor. He did not worship money, as is evident from these poems of his:

Solon, a political figure in Ancient Greece and a reformer in Athens between and - around BCE, was elected as an archon in BCE, the highest office in the ancient Greek city-states. During his tenure, Solon implemented a series of socio-political reforms in the interest of the Athenian people:
Social and Political Reforms
First, he abolished land debt, freeing debtors from slavery and repurchasing those sold outside of the country. He also prohibited future debt slavery. Solon standardized measurements and weights, unifying them across the city-state.
All citizens were divided into four classes based on their wealth, and their political rights were determined by the size of their property. Additionally, Solon increased the number of citizens by including metics (foreigners) and freed slaves who were personally free but lacked political rights. Among them were wealthy slave owners, traders, and owners of artisan workshops who permanently resettled in Athens.
