13 ફેબ્રુઆરીના રોજ રાષ્ટ્રીય મહિલા દિવસ ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. મહિલા સશક્તિકરણ એ આધુનિક યુગની દેન નથી પરંતુ તે ઘણા દાયકાઓ પહેલાથી ભારતીય સમાજનો એક ભાગ છે. સ્વાતંત્ર્ય સંગ્રામમાં અનેક મહિલાઓએ સક્રિય યોગદાન આપીને સાબિત કર્યું છે કે મહિલાઓ સમાજનો નબળો વર્ગ નથી, પરંતુ તે શક્તિશાળી હિસ્સો છે. જેની ભાગીદારી વિના કોઈપણ કાર્ય અધૂરું છે. સ્વતંત્રતા સંગ્રામમાં મહત્વનો ભાગ ભજવનાર કેટલીક મહિલાઓમાંની એક ખાસ મહિલા ‛ભારત કોકિલા’ સરોજિની નાયડુ પણ હતી. સરોજિની નાયડુએ હંમેશા મહિલાઓના અધિકારો માટે સંઘર્ષ કર્યો હતો. તેથી જ તેમના જન્મદિવસને મહિલા દિવસ તરીકે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. ભારતમાં રાષ્ટ્રીય મહિલા દિવસની ઉજવણી 13મી ફેબ્રુઆરી ના રોજ સરોજિની નાયડુની મી જન્મજયંતિથી શરૂ થઈ હતી.
