The Bible Story of Abraham
Abraham lived in the Old Testament days but is mentioned 72 times in the New Testament. The Hebrews Hall of Fame (in Hebrews 11) says, “From this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and countless as the sands on the seashore. He is called “God’s friend” (James ), a moniker with special meaning because of the covenant God initiated with him. He was just a human like you and me, but Abraham’s story is part of our story and one we all should know.
Where Was Abraham Born?
Abraham (first known as Abram) was born the son of Terah, who lived near the southern Mesopotamian city called “Ur of the Chaldees.” contributor Maddy Rager explains this city (located in modern-day Iraq) worshipped a moon god called Sin. Abram went north because God had a plan for eternity that included this man and didn’t include worshiping Sin.
The fact that one day, of all of his years, Abram heard God call out to him is more than amazing. The idea that God told him to “leave your country, your people, and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you” demonstrates a relationship of trust or at least knowledge of God

Abraham is a man whose character looms large in the history of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Abraham plays an important part in each of these religions. He is seen as a holy prophet in Islam. Judaism considered him the ‘father’ of their religion. In Christianity, it is through Abraham’s lineage that the Savior of the world comes (Matthew 1; Luke 3). Let us look at a brief history of this man and how his life is an example for us in our walk with Jesus.
Abraham’s World
God created man in His image in order that man might represent Him here on earth. By Abraham’s time, humanity had turned completely away from God, been destroyed by a flood (except for eight people), and were once again turning away from God, as evidenced by the story of the Tower of Babel (Genesis ). God began implementing this part of His plan of salvation by calling Abram, as he was known then, to leave his hometown of Ur and travel to a new land that God would show him (Genesis ; Acts ).

I. In the case of Sarah the real drama opens with married life. In the case of Rebekah it opens with the proposal of marriage. The offer comes from Isaac. When she sees the servant approaching she has no idea of his errand. But Rebekah has a wonderful talisman against such surprise—an astonishing power of putting herself instantaneously in the place of those to whom she is speaking.
II. There is a peculiarity about Rebekah's sympathetic insight. It is not only manifested to things near, but to things at a distance. I would call her a farseeing woman, by which I mean a woman with an insight into the future. What she sees is a vision of the coming will of God. From a worldly standpoint she could do better than marry Isaac. If Rebekah's insight had been limited to the things around her she would have rejected the suit of Isaac. To unite with a worshipper of another God was the revulsion of her soul, so from Rebekah's gaze all Hittite offers fade, and the figure of the Hebrew Isaac stands triumphant.

Abraham is one of the most blessed people in the Bible. Although Scripture is not a comprehensive history of humans it does, however, chronicle the relationship of one man and his descendants with the Creator of the Universe. Ultimately, it is a record of how God has and will bless mankind through the life of the next person in our timeline.
The apostle Paul not only confirms that the world is blessed through Abraham's faithful life but also that anyone who has faith in God is considered one of his spiritual sons and heir of the promises.
Because of this, you should understand that those who are of faith are the true sons of Abraham.
Now in the Scriptures, God, seeing in advance that He would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed."
