Bucks County no longer just basketball as high school wrestling soaring to new heights
When asked what Bucks County area wrestlers have been doing, and what they need to do, in order to compete at the state's highest level, veteran Central Bucks East head coach Dave Scarpill let out a laugh.
"There are a lot of things that go into it, but dedication to the sport is probably the biggest thing," Scarpill said.
"All I know is that Chase Williams was over at the River Club at Germantown Academy the day after he won a state title and had a three-hour practice.
"And the Bachmann brothers (from Faith Christian) were there, too. They were all working out already. All those Bucks County state champs are at these clubs that are popping up all over."
Greatest day in Bucks County high school wrestling history
Less than 24 hours earlier, Williams, a CB East freshman, and Freddy and Joey Bachmann, among many other area wrestlers, all won PIAA gold medals at the state tournament in Hershey.
That day was Saturday, March 8, which will go down as the greatest day in Bucks County high school wrestling history.

After graduating from UMass Amherst in June , Jock began teaching in Tewksbury in September 67, where he started the wrestling program in December of that same year. Jock was also the first wrestling coach at Littleton High School ( season).
In November , Jock became head wrestling coach in Tewksbury, replacing four-year head coach Denis Puleo. During Jock’s first seven years as head wrestling coach, Tewksbury was the smallest Division I program in Massachusetts high school wrestling. Jock was proud to have coached twenty-eight Sectional finalists of whom nineteen became Division 1 North Sectional champions, along with seven Division 1 State champions and two New England champions. The seven Division 1 State champions: Gary Hauswirth, Dana Rasmussen (twice), John Carroll, Steve Looney, Steve O’Keefe and Mike Keon. Dana Rasmussen, who was a two-time New England finalist, became a NE champion as a senior and went on to wrestle at UMass Amherst. David Donovan, after losing in the state finals, became a New England champion a week later, avenging his earlier loss in the state finals.

In 40 years of officiating, Gary Kessel has refereed 16 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, including 12 finals, and eight NCAA Division III Championships, including eight finals. He has officiated 21 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championships and 18 Virginia Duals while also refereeing nine National Duals and four National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star matches. Kessel has also refereed 39 New Jersey state high school wrestling championships, including 11 finals, and has officiated 15 national high school tournaments.
Beginning his love affair with wrestling in the eighth grade, Kessel wrestled at East Stroudsburg University and served as an assistant coach following graduation.
Since , he has served as president of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Association, the oldest and largest wrestling organization in the country, and has worked as a rules interpreter for the state of New Jersey and the Eastern Wrestling League. National High School Girls Wrestling Team Rankings
The committee that selects the National Girls High School Rankings, which includes representation from USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum, has published its February National Girls High School Team Rankings.
This ranking includes public and private schools at the high school level from all states, including states with official girls state championship events as well as those with unofficial girls state championships.
For the January rankings, the committee has once again selected the top 50 high school teams in the nation and has expanded the number of honorable mention teams from 40 to 50 programs.
Remaining as the #1 ranked team is the nation is Wyoming Seminary (Pa.), the Prep School national champions. Individual athletes from Wyoming Seminary have competed well in college opens and high school events.
