"Arty McGlynn is to flatpicking traditional Irish music what Doc Watson is to flatpicking American fiddle tunes. Like Doc, Arty took an instrument that was primarily used in an accompaniment role and gave it a lead voice. He first did this in a recorded form on his release McGlynn’s Fancy: Arty McGlynn Plays Traditional Irish Music on the Guitar. The recording was immediately hailed as a ‘classic in the traditional music world’ and as a result Arty became ‘the most sought after musician in Ireland.’ And, like Doc, Arty continues to create and innovate while remaining true to tradition.
